Our Integrated Approach to Recovery
At No Matter What Recovery, sustainable healing happens when identity, trauma, relationships, and mental health are treated together — not in isolation. Serving Chicago and surrounding communities, our evidence-based model combines medical treatment, affirming therapy, and robust community support.
Medical Treatment & MAT
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) under the guidance of Medical Director Dr. Eric Chaghouri, MD, reduces cravings and stabilizes recovery. On-site psychiatric care and psychoeducation address co-occurring mental health conditions.
Affirming Therapy & Counseling
Individual therapy, group processing, Somatic Experiencing, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) work address trauma at its root — in a fully LGBTQ+-affirming, clinically grounded environment.
Chemsex & Sexualized Drug Use Specialty
Led by National Director Mell McCracken, CADC-II, ASAT, RACS, our proprietary sexualized drug use education addresses the intersection of substances, sex, and identity — a critical clinical gap that very few programs in Chicago are equipped to treat.
Our clinicians work with each client to build a sexual recovery plan concurrently with a relapse prevention plan prior to discharge, an approach proven to reduce the ongoing impact of methamphetamine use in the community.
Holistic & Somatic Care
Holistic programming supports healing of the whole person through somatic modalities, mindfulness, and experiential approaches that complement evidence-based clinical treatment.
Family Systems & Support
Integrative Family Groups, facilitated by Chief Clinical Officer Jessica Steinman, LMFT, CSAT, help loved ones repair relationships, and support recovery at home.
Wrap-Around Case Management
Master’s-level clinicians and certified staff provide coordinated support across housing, scheduling, and life transitions — reducing the practical barriers that can disrupt recovery.
Our Clinical Services
CHEMSEX RECOVERY PROGRAM
Our proprietary chemsex curriculum is one of the few in Chicago specifically designed to address the psychological, relational, and physical dimensions of sexualized drug use. Treatment explores intimacy in sobriety, attachment wounds, compulsive sexual behaviors, shame resilience, and community reintegration.
Every client in our chemsex program leaves with a sexual recovery plan developed concurrently with their relapse prevention plan — a paired discharge deliverable that is proven to minimize the ongoing effects of methamphetamine in the community.
Multiple members of our clinical team hold Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT) credentials, strengthening our ability to treat sexualized drug use and compulsive behaviors with clinical depth and accountability.
THE TRANS EXPERIENCE IN RECOVERY
Our program provides gender-affirming, trauma-informed care tailored to the psychological, medical, and social considerations impacting transgender and gender-diverse individuals. Support includes identity integration, minority stress processing, family system dynamics, and psychiatric collaboration when appropriate.
TRAUMA & INTERNAL FAMILY SYSTEMS
We integrate Internal Family Systems (IFS), Somatic Experiencing, and other evidence-based modalities to address developmental trauma, relational trauma, and nervous system regulation.
DUAL DIAGNOSIS & PSYCHIATRIC CARE
Clients receive ongoing psychiatric oversight, medication management, and Medication-Assisted Treatment when clinically appropriate. Medical and clinical teams collaborate closely to ensure continuity and safety throughout all levels of care.
Programs Tailored to You
Every person who walks through our doors brings a unique story. If you’re not sure where to start, our care coordinators will help you find the right fit.
CORE PROGRAM
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
Structured daytime treatment for individuals who need intensive support without 24-hour residential care. PHP includes daily group therapy, individual sessions, psychiatric support, and MAT — while allowing you to return home each evening.
CORE PROGRAM
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
A step down from PHP, or a primary level of care for those with a stable home environment. IOP provides clinical depth — therapy, group work, and MAT support — with flexibility for work or family responsibilities.
FLEXIBLE ACCESS
Virtual IOP for Working Professionals
Evening virtual IOP sessions allow working professionals and those with scheduling constraints to access the same quality of evidence-based care.
STEP-DOWN CARE
Outpatient Program (OP)
For clients transitioning out of IOP or those whose needs are best met with a lighter clinical footprint, our outpatient program provides continued therapeutic support while allowing full reintegration into work, family, and daily life in Chicago.
SPECIALTY

Our dedicated chemsex program is one of the few in Chicago specifically designed to address the psychological, relational, and physical dimensions of sexualized drug use — with clinical leadership that understands this experience firsthand.

Recovery doesn't end at discharge. We offer alumni programming, transitional living residences, and ongoing case management to ensure you have community and structure as you re-enter daily life in Chicago.
Why Patients Choose No Matter What Recovery
Choosing a treatment provider is one of the most important decisions you’ll make. Here’s what sets us apart — beyond credentials.
- Truly Affirming — Not Just Inclusive: Every clinician is trained in LGBTQ+-competent, culturally affirming care. We didn’t add an LGBTQ+ program as an afterthought — we built our model around the community’s specific needs.
- Chemsex Expertise Unmatched in Chicago: We’re one of the only treatment programs in Chicago with a dedicated National Director of Chemsex and LGBTQ+ Programs — bringing clinical precision and lived-experience understanding to this underserved area.
- Dual Diagnosis at Our Core: Substance use and mental health are treated together — not sequentially. Anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, and co-occurring conditions are addressed in every treatment plan.
- Full MAT Services On-Site: Medication-Assisted Treatment is supervised by our Medical Director on-site — not referred out. Comprehensive care under one roof, one clinical team.
- Joint Commission Accredited: Independent accreditation by The Joint Commission confirms our commitment to the highest standards of safety, clinical quality, and patient-centered care.
- Integrative Family Groups: Our bi-monthly family groups — led by Chief Clinical Officer Jessica Steinman, LMFT, CSAT — give loved ones guidance, community, and tools to support recovery at home.
- Built for Chicago’s LGBTQ+ Community — Not Adapted for It: No Matter What Recovery’s Chicago location wasn’t retrofitted from a general program. It was built from the ground up to address the specific challenges LGBTQ+ individuals face — including minority stress, discrimination, family rejection, internalized homophobia and transphobia, moral injury, and damaged arousal templates — challenges that traditional treatment programs routinely fail to address.
What Our Clients Say
EXCELLENT Based on 46 reviews Posted on Zahara NTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Ok so I was resentful and followed some direction and now I can honestly do this. I had some unhealthy moments but overall I felt the staff did there best considering the mess I made of my life. Bryce picked me up from my home and took me to detox. One time Paulo the owner ubered to me in the valley amd drove me and my car to detox because I was too intoxicated to drive. My experience with this facility had for the most part been extremely helpful. Cause girl shes a tornado lol. I just felt kinda abandoned and had some misinformation but overall the staff went above and beyond. Yes the chef gas a smart mouth but hey cooking for a bunch of addicts can be a lot. The tech that said I didnt look cis gender wasnt attacking me personally. We all have bad days. I give them 4 stars and would recommend anyone have a blessed day!!Posted on Lincoln TTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I highly recommend No Matter What Recovery. I found NMW to be a safe, welcoming, and deeply supportive environment where clients can openly share their experiences and struggles without fear of judgment. That was very much my experience. I found their comprehensive approach to recovery—combining traditional methods, such as group and one-on-one psychotherapy, with holistic practices like art therapy, and music therapy—to be especially helpful. It provided opportunities to explore one’s own creativity while developing a variety of coping skills. Both the individual and group therapy sessions were, in my experience, outstanding—something I genuinely looked forward to. Equally outstanding and helpful were the chemsex addiction recovery groups—providing education and support in an area that I believe many treatment centers don’t address. Finally, the connections I made with other clients have proven to be incredibly valuable. The No Matter What team genuinely cares about their clients and meets them with compassion and respect. I’m deeply grateful for the support I received and would highly recommend this center to anyone seeking inclusive, affirming care—especially within the LGBTQ+ community.Posted on BCTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. This is a one-of-a-kind organization with a phenomenal vision and capability to bring support to the LGBTQIA+ community. I’m thankful for their presence and the services they provide.Posted on JacobTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. No Matter What Recovery Center (NMW) saved my life—and they still treat me like family. I feel compelled to write this review personally—not utilizing ChatGPT—because I genuinely don’t believe I’d be here to write anything at all if it weren’t for the care, compassion, and love I received at NMW. The treatment was not only individualized but truly holistic. Paired with the unwavering support from the staff, I felt—maybe for the first time—that people both wanted me to succeed and were equipping me with the tools to actually do it. If you’re looking for a real chance to change your life, NMW is where you’ll find it. Their substance-use, mental-health, and chemsex programs are all LGBTQ-focused and second to none. My journey with NMW began when the owner, Paulo, personally called me just to check in—at a time when I was doing pretty terribly—and asked how he could help. During my first week at the center, he greeted me with this huge, warm bear hug and told me he was glad I was there. It was genuine, and honestly, it was exactly what I needed in that moment. He even gave me his personal number, which he freely shares with anyone who needs support. Because of insurance, I had to go to detox elsewhere—somewhere labeled “LGBT-friendly” where I ended up being the only gay person there, and I felt incredibly uncomfortable. When I eventually connected with Bryce from Admissions at NMW to coordinate my transfer into their PHP program, it was such a relief. We ended up having a little kiki over the phone, and in that moment I knew NMW was where I belonged. NMW has top-tier clinicians: therapists like Ruben, and group facilitators like Will, Cornelius, and Adrienne. And then there’s Mell McCracken, their Executive Director and the nation’s leading expert on chemsex addiction and treatment. The program they’ve created at NMW has been nothing short of life-saving for me—and for countless others. I never once felt like NMW treated me with a cookie-cutter approach. Jack, the Program Director, played a huge role in allowing me to stay as long as I needed. Gannon, the Regional Housing Director, was instrumental in helping navigate everyday life situations. I was able to travel to pick up my car, keep my phone, and even start working again while still in treatment. With those freedoms came situations that would’ve derailed me in the past—but being part of NMW gave me the support and structure to navigate them successfully this time. I cannot recommend No Matter What strongly enough. If you’re ready for your life to change, this is the place that can do it. It changed mine—and I’m endlessly grateful.Posted on Marc PTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. As a graduate of the phenomenal rehabilitation program provided at No Matter What Recovery, I feel it my duty to recommended this stellar facility to anyone in the LGBTQAI+ community that is seeking treatment. I never believed I would find such a safe, inclusive environment to begin my recovery journey. The personalized care given to each client was so well thought out and the clinicians are the best that I could have ever asked for. I felt well taken care of from the moment I walked through the doors. Additionally, the sober living provided was such a warm, well kept place that I was so happy to call home during my stay. I can’t say how grateful I am to have found No Matter What Recovery.Posted on Ryan FTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. No Matter What is great! Top to bottom their employees are caring from the owners Paulo and Tony to their clinical staff, alumni program and Sober Living. I felt safe here and owe my recovery to them. This program was so different from any other program I’ve done in the past. I felt supported, encouraged and loved the entire way through. The Chem Sex/Sex and Love addict curriculum changed how I viewed the effects that relationship had in my sobriety and helped a lot!Posted on Brandon STrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Where do I begin? This place changed my life in ways I can't possibly express in words. From the very first time I reached out, Bryce and Paulo were welcoming, warm and worked with me to make the whole admissions process easy. What Paulo and Anthony have created is nothing short of a miracle for struggling alcoholics and addicts like myself. I immediately found a supportive community and the exact help that I needed. I can't say enough wonderful things about my therapist Ruben - he's truly a treasure and I came to know so much more about myself and my struggles by working with him. All of the facilitators were amazing with a special shoutout to Mell and their chemsex group. Also want to give kudos to Jack, their Assistant Executive Director, who worked tirelessly to get all of my short term disability and miscellaneous paperwork completed quickly so that I could focus on my treatment. If you are an addict or alcoholic who wants to get sober but doesn't know where to start, I highly suggest you pick up the phone and call No Matter What. It's the best decision you'll ever make. They've helped give me a life that I am so grateful for when my future looked bleak. I recommend them one thousand and ten percent.Posted on Billy -Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. NMW Recovery was an amazing part of my journey I am so grateful 🙏 that a place like this exists for the LGBTQ+ community to help provide quality recovery support in times of crisis and need.Posted on Robert GTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. No Matter What Recovery is the best rehab choice for someone who is LGBTQ+ or an ally. You do not have to hide who you are or explain things about yourself here, they get what you've been through which is refreshing in its own. They are also LGBT owned and operated, which is nice to have staff that are part of your community, adding an extra level of care and attention. The groups are therapeutic, as hearing what others have been though may help you find answers to your own problems. It was also refreshing to have others ask questions when and if you decided to share your story, as it helps you process what you've been through or reframe your thinking around it. The 1-1 sessions with a therapist were amazing and helped me process a lot of trauma, shout out to Jay who was my therapist and a lifesaver. Art therapy was something I had not thought of as part of recovery, but I did indeed learn some ways to creatively express what I was going through and turn it into a positive. Will and Anna are amazing facilitators in this regard. The follow up from NMWR is also impressive. They were the first place to follow up with me and respond via text or phone, even late at night (thank you Bryce). Phil also reached out after I completed my program and follows up occasionally, which is nice as it shows the level of care you will receive here.
